Toulouse Held to Goalless Draw by Troyes Despite Tengstedt Chances

The lights stayed on at the Stadium de Toulouse, but no one found the finish. Casper Tengstedt had the clearest early openings for Toulouse as they drew 0-0 with Troyes on Sunday, 25 October, in Ligue 1 matchday eight.

The move

Tengstedt was at the centre of Toulouse’s most dangerous first-half sequences. In the 13th minute, Hillel Konaté saved his low attempt from the right side of the area after Cristian Cásseres sent him through. Moments earlier, Konaté had also kept out an Aron Dønnum effort, with Thomas Jørgensen providing the pass.

The Danish forward tested the Troyes goalkeeper again in the 24th minute, meeting Dønnum’s delivery from close range, but Konaté made another stop. Tengstedt later had a shot blocked after the interval following a Cásseres pass.

His involvement ended in concern rather than celebration. Tengstedt received treatment after a challenge with Junior Diaz in the 53rd minute, although he remained on the pitch while Toulouse continued to search for a breakthrough.

A match of near misses

Toulouse began with more of the sharp moments. Jørgensen headed wide from Dønnum’s early ball, while a Messali pass that appeared to release Tengstedt was ruled offside.

Troyes had their own warning signs. Renaud Ripart saw an early effort blocked after Timothé Nkada’s assist, before Dermane Karim fired narrowly over from a corner. Mouhamed Diop also had an attempt blocked from inside the box in the 29th minute.

After the break, the visitors continued to threaten from distance. Antoine Mille had two shots blocked in quick succession, Nkada’s effort was stopped after a Diop cross, and Merwan Ifnaoui twice failed to turn late attempts into a decisive moment. His stoppage-time shot from outside the area went wide.

Toulouse’s best late opportunity fell to Niko Sigur. Cásseres swung in a corner in the 86th minute, but Sigur’s header drifted just beyond the right post. Ilyas Azizi had also seen a long-range attempt blocked after arriving from the bench.

The French season around it

The goalless result came in the eighth round of the Ligue 1 campaign, with neither side able to convert a match that offered chances at both ends. Toulouse made four second-half changes, including the forced replacement of Rafik Messali after an injury stoppage.

Troyes refreshed their attack during the final half-hour, bringing on Kandet Diawara and Jérémy Le Douaron for Nkada and Ripart, before Iron Gomis replaced Diop in the 90th minute.

  • Alexis Vossah replaced the injured Messali for Toulouse in the 58th minute.
  • Ilyas Azizi came on for Aron Dønnum in the 67th minute.
  • Niklas Schmidt and Santiago Hidalgo entered in the 84th minute, replacing Jørgensen and Jacen Russell-Rowe.
  • Troyes introduced Diawara, Le Douaron and Gomis during the second half.

The match became increasingly scrappy as the final whistle approached. Toulouse players Cristian Cásseres, Messali, Dønnum, Sigur, Vossah and Mark McKenzie were booked, while Junior Diaz and Nkada received yellow cards for Troyes.

McKenzie’s caution arrived in added time for a dangerous challenge, shortly after Vossah had also been penalised. Yet neither the late fouls nor four minutes of stoppage time changed the scoreline: Toulouse 0-0 Troyes.
