After the bright opening came a sharper reality check for Troyes. Stéphane Dumont’s side welcome Angers on Saturday night at 20:45, seeking a response in the fifth round of the Ligue 1 season after consecutive defeats halted their early momentum.
Troyes began with a goalless draw against Paris FC before beating Lorient 2-1, but the last two outings have been far more damaging: a 6-2 home defeat to Strasbourg followed by a 2-0 loss at Lille. The task against Angers is complicated by an injury list that continues to limit Dumont’s options.
Centre-back Paolo Gozzi remains unavailable with a knee problem, while right winger Merwan Ifnaoui is sidelined by a calf injury and midfielder Alexandre Phliponeau is nursing an adductor issue. Those three players could return after the upcoming international break.
The outlook is less immediate for full-backs Ismaël Boura and Yvann Titi. Boura has a hip injury, while Titi is recovering from a thigh problem, and both are expected to be absent for longer.
Dumont wants his depleted squad to strike the right balance against Angers: “We need to find the proper equilibrium between being compact enough to neutralise the opposition’s strengths and carrying an attacking edge, with more changes of pace and spontaneity.”
For Troyes, Saturday offers a chance to stop the slide before the international window arrives. The recent scorelines have exposed a side still searching for stability; against Angers, defensive control must be matched by the attacking conviction Dumont believes has been missing.
