Adrien Truffert supplied an early reminder of his attacking value as Bournemouth edged Real Sociedad on a European night that brought emphatic home wins for Juventus and Crystal Palace, while Portugal’s second-tier Torreense made history in Norway.
Truffert creates Bournemouth opener
Bournemouth built a two-goal lead against Real Sociedad before surviving a late spell of pressure to win 2-1. Justin Kluivert struck in the 11th minute after meeting a cross from French left-back Truffert, on the eve of Zinédine Zidane’s squad announcement.
Rayan doubled the Cherries’ advantage nine minutes later. Real Sociedad pulled one back and made the closing stages uncomfortable, but Bournemouth held their ground to take the result.
Juventus and Palace cruise at home
Juventus overwhelmed NEC Nijmegen 5-0. Nico Gonzalez opened the scoring in the ninth minute, with Kerim Alajbegovic adding a second on 24 minutes. Nick Woltemade scored his first goal for the club 11 minutes later.
Zeki Celik made it four in the 75th minute before Randal Kolo Muani, who had already registered an assist, scored his first goal of the season in the 82nd minute.
Crystal Palace were equally comfortable at Selhurst Park, where Pierre Sage’s side beat Lech Poznan 4-0. Yéremi Pino struck after nine minutes, Chris Richards extended the lead in the 27th, and Jörgen Strand Larsen converted a penalty seven minutes later. Eddie Nketiah completed the scoring in the 89th minute.
Torreense claim landmark European victory
Torreense, playing in Portugal’s second division, won their first European match by beating Lillestrøm 2-1 away from home. The Portuguese side reached the competition after lifting the Portuguese Cup and had established a 2-0 lead before a difficult finish.
Lillestrøm reduced the deficit with 10 minutes remaining, then Torreense were reduced to 10 men when Jatta was sent off in the 85th minute. The visitors nevertheless protected their advantage to secure a landmark result for a club competing below the Portuguese top flight.
Elsewhere
Union Saint-Gilloise defeated Viktoria Plzen 3-0, while Celtic suffered a 3-1 home loss to Ferencvaros.
