UD Almería Winger Álex Sola Unhurt After Early-Morning Car Crash

In Almería, where the road east towards Murcia runs past apartment blocks, roundabouts and the late-night glow of a BP station, UD Almería winger Álex Sola was involved in a car crash during the early hours of the morning. The 26-year-old is reported to be unharmed, although several parked vehicles were damaged.

Sola, the Donostia-born wide player, was driving a grey high-powered BMW on Avenida de Montserrat when he lost control near the roundabout by the petrol station. His car struck a number of stationary vehicles, leaving substantial material damage in the area.

Residents alerted the Local Police, who attended the scene and began their formal procedures. A report has been opened over a possible road-safety offence connected with alcohol testing. No finding of guilt has been made against Sola, and the precise circumstances of the collision, including any potential responsibility, remain subject to the authorities’ investigation.

A night after Burgos

The accident came after Almería’s win over Burgos. Sola did not take part in that match, and reports indicated that he had been celebrating the result before the incident.

It is an uncomfortable echo of an earlier traffic episode involving another Almería player. Last season, centre-back Aridane Hernández crashed his Porsche Cayenne into several cars in La Vega de Acá, another district of the Andalusian city. The Canary Islander later tested positive in an alcohol control following that collision.

The two cases belong to different moments and different investigations, but both have unfolded on the streets of Almería around players connected with the club. For Sola, the immediate football concern gives way to a civil process that will now establish what occurred on Avenida de Montserrat.
