Venezia Sack Giovanni Stroppa After Winless Serie A Start

Venice has changed course early in its return to Italy’s top flight, with Venezia dismissing Giovanni Stroppa after a winless start to the Serie A season.

The arancioneroverdi have taken no league points since promotion, losing each of their opening fixtures. Stroppa leaves only a season after guiding the club from the lagoon back into Serie A, completing a successful 2025/26 Serie B campaign in his first year in charge.

From promotion to a difficult Serie A return

  1. Stroppa arrived at Venezia during the 2025/26 season and led the club to promotion from Serie B.
  2. Venezia began their Serie A campaign with home defeats against Lecce, Fiorentina and Lazio.
  3. Trips to Milan, Frosinone and Atalanta also ended in defeat, leaving the side without a league point.
  4. Their sole victory of the season came in the opening round of the Coppa Italia, where they beat Modena 3-2.
  5. Venezia were then eliminated from the cup by Udinese.
  6. The club announced Stroppa’s departure on Tuesday.

Club thanks departing coach

Venezia recognised Stroppa’s role in securing promotion, describing the 2025/26 Serie B campaign as a notable achievement under his technical leadership.

The club also thanked the coach and his staff for their professionalism, dedication and commitment during their time in Venice. The search now begins for a successor capable of halting a difficult opening sequence and giving the newly promoted side a foothold in Serie A.
