Lazio arrive in Venice with their unbeaten opening to the Serie A season intact, while Venezia face a fifth-round evening at the Penzo still seeking their first point of the campaign.
Key takeaways
- Venezia v Lazio brings Saturday’s programme in Serie A matchday five to a close.
- Kick-off at the Pier Luigi Penzo Stadium is scheduled for 20:45.
- Gennaro Gattuso’s Lazio have taken four wins and one draw from their first five competitive league outings.
- The Biancocelesti drew with Milan in their previous Serie A match.
- Stroppa’s newly promoted Venezia have lost every league fixture so far and remain without a point.
- Floriani is in line to keep his place on the right, while Frattesi remains a central figure in Lazio’s expected side.
An early-season test at the Penzo
The fifth round offers two clubs at sharply different points in their early development. Lazio travel to the lagoon with momentum and consistency already established under Gattuso, whose side have not yet been beaten in the league.
Four victories were followed by a draw against Milan last time out, leaving Lazio with an unbeaten record as they prepare for a demanding away evening in Venice. The meeting with the newly promoted side is another opportunity for the capital club to extend a composed start to the season.
For Venezia, the occasion carries a different weight. Stroppa’s team are still waiting for their first return of the Serie A campaign after a sequence made up entirely of defeats. The Penzo now hosts a match in which the home side will look to turn their season’s opening page against one of the division’s early unbeaten teams.
Lazio selection points
Gattuso is expected to retain Floriani on the right-hand side, rewarding a player who is pushing for continuity in the starting line-up. Frattesi is also set to remain one of the main reference points in the Lazio team.
With the match scheduled for 20:45, Venezia will seek the response that has so far eluded them, while Lazio aim to make their strong opening stretch count again away from home.
