Venice Sack Giovanni Stroppa After Winless Serie A Start

Venice have pulled the emergency cord six games into their Serie A return, dismissing Giovanni Stroppa after a start without a point.

The 58-year-old leaves with the promoted side bottom of the table following six defeats. Venice have scored only five times and conceded 16 goals, giving them Serie A’s weakest defence and its second-lowest scoring return.

Quick facts

  • Giovanni Stroppa has been sacked by Venice after six Serie A matches.
  • Venice are last in the standings with zero points.
  • The club have scored five goals and allowed 16.
  • Stroppa led Venice to the Serie B title last season.
  • The next coach will target Venice’s first 21st-century top-flight survival.

Stroppa had been under mounting pressure before the most recent international break, but Venice initially kept faith with the coach who had delivered promotion after taking charge in the summer of 2025.

His second season at the club has ended abruptly. The Italian had guided Venice back from Serie B at the first attempt, yet the step up has produced no reward in the opening weeks of the campaign.

It is the third time Stroppa has lost a Serie A job during a season. He was previously dismissed by Pescara in 2012-13 and by Crotone in 2020-21.

Venice’s incoming manager faces a familiar and demanding assignment. The club finished 19th in both 2021-22 and 2024-25, and have not secured top-flight survival in the 21st century.

With the season still young but the points column empty, Venice must now find a response quickly if another immediate relegation is to be avoided.
