After a summer without a club, Krépin Diatta has found his next challenge away from Ligue 1, leaving Monaco behind for England’s second tier.
The Ligue 1 news
Watford have signed the Senegal international on a one-year contract, with an option to extend the deal by a further season. The 27-year-old joins the Championship club after his Monaco contract expired during the summer.
Diatta will wear the number 15 for the Hornets, who sit 20th in the 24-team Championship table.
The move ends a four-year spell at Monaco, where he made 143 appearances after arriving from Club Brugge in 2021. Before his move to the Principality, he produced 20 goals and 10 assists across 95 matches for the Belgian side.
Initially developed as a winger, Diatta has increasingly been used in deeper roles during recent seasons, operating as a full-back or wing-back. That positional flexibility is likely to be a key part of his value at Watford.
The former Monaco player also brings significant international experience, having won 65 caps for Senegal.
The next appointment in England
Diatta’s immediate task will be to help Watford climb away from the lower reaches of the Championship. His first season in English football begins with the Hornets searching for greater balance and points after their difficult start to the campaign.
