FC Bayern’s academy has become a significant source of transfer income this summer, with Wisdom Mike’s move to Club Brugge illustrating the value of the club’s Campus pathway.
The 18-year-old joined the Belgian side for €5 million after making only five competitive appearances for Bayern’s first team. Each of those outings came from the bench, putting the fee at an effective €1 million per senior appearance.
A year ago, Mike was viewed as one of the prospects capable of reaching Bayern’s professional squad, potentially alongside Lennart Karl. Karl has since established himself at senior level and become an international, while Mike’s route has led to a profitable sale.
Bayern have trained their own youth players at the Campus since August 2017. The project initially delivered limited returns, but recent academy business has strengthened the club’s accounts. Uli Hoeneß has made clear that he sees the development positively.
