VfB Stuttgart currently rely on Angelo Stiller and Grischa Prömel as their central midfield pairing. Behind them, academy prospect Yanik Spalt has moved ahead of former captain Atakan Karazor in the internal pecking order.
Spalt is now regarded as the first midfield replacement option. The change is also connected to the circumstances surrounding Mirza Catovic’s departure, which has altered Stuttgart’s depth planning in the position.
Karazor, once the club captain, is therefore not presently the next man in line behind Stiller and Prömel. Stuttgart’s midfield selection has instead opened a route for Spalt to take a more prominent role.
