Yankees Place Aaron Judge on 10-Day IL With Right Calf Strain

The Yankees will finish the regular-season push without Aaron Judge, who is set to go on the 10-day injured list Saturday because of a right calf strain.

New York said it will announce a corresponding roster move when Judge is placed on the injured list.

Judge’s issue surfaced in Wednesday’s series finale against the Twins. He left that game for a pinch-hitter after experiencing stiffness in the lower portion of his right leg.

The star outfielder said he initially hoped to stay in the game, mindful of the importance of the schedule’s closing weeks, but decided not to risk hurting the club either in the field or on the bases.

“I tried to kind of play it off and see how long we could go,” Judge said Wednesday. “But after talking it over, I felt coming out was the right decision so I wouldn’t cost the team on defense or on the basepaths.”
