RC Lens have turned to a familiar face as the season moves into a demanding new phase. Yannick Cahuzac, promoted after Dino Toppmöller’s departure on Tuesday, has been confirmed as the club’s long-term head coach rather than a temporary solution.
The move
Cahuzac returned to Lens during the summer as an assistant coach, but has now stepped into the main role following Toppmöller’s exit. The club’s general director, Benjamin Parrot, made clear on Thursday that there is no fixed end date attached to the 41-year-old’s appointment.
“There is no interim status and no time limit on his work,” Parrot said.
Lens intend to support Cahuzac with sporting director Jean-Louis Leca, whom Parrot described as a structured and reliable figure within the club. The immediate objective is to help Cahuzac translate his tactical reputation into sustained leadership as a senior coach.
Parrot said Cahuzac arrives with strong tactical knowledge and the right tools to take the next step from “super tactician” to an established manager.
The French season around it
Leca also backed Cahuzac’s understanding of Lens and his potential to bring stability after the change on the bench. The former midfielder knows the club from his previous spell and has returned at a moment when continuity is a priority.
“We have great confidence in Yannick, in his vision and in his quality as a coach,” Leca said. “Even when he was a player, Franck Haise would go to him and ask for his views.”

Leca acknowledged that Cahuzac is still developing as a coach, but pointed to his progress during his time at Lorient and his close knowledge of the Lens environment.
“He is not the finished article as a coach; he is young, at 41, but he understands this club,” Leca said. “I watched him develop at Lorient. We know his potential and trust what he can bring to restore continuity.”
