Zlatko Tripic Claims Victory Over Michael Olise After Bayern Red Card

Michael Olise’s night in Stavanger ended with a goal, a red card and a late blow for Bayern as Viking struck in the 90th minute to level the match. Zlatko Tripic, the Norwegian side’s captain, had spent the evening trying to blunt the Frenchman’s influence on the artificial surface — and later declared he had won their personal contest.

Olise scores before dismissal in Stavanger

Tripic stayed close to Olise throughout the match, restricting the space available to one of Bayern’s most dangerous attacking players. Even so, Olise found the net before the confrontation between the pair changed the complexion of the closing stages.

  • Olise scored for Bayern despite Viking’s close attention to him.
  • Minutes later, he was shown a second yellow card after throwing the ball into Tripic’s face.
  • Viking then found a 90th-minute equaliser, sparking celebrations in Stavanger.
  • The result left Bayern to reflect on a costly loss of composure after their attacking threat had appeared capable of deciding the contest.

Tripic calls it a personal victory

The Viking captain made no attempt to hide his satisfaction after the final whistle, arguing that his task had been to disrupt Olise rather than allow him a comfortable evening.

“It is great that a player like him, who may one day win the Ballon d’Or, gets frustrated by someone from Oftebro and Lyngdal,” Tripic said. “He should not have expected an easy time here. Once I managed to distract him from what he does so well, he lost his temper and threw the ball in my face. I feel I won that duel.”

Max Eberl, Bayern’s sporting director, took a sharply different view of the episode. Addressing Tripic’s role in the confrontation, he said the Viking player had “played like a scoundrel”.

Abuse follows on social media

The aftermath also spilled beyond the pitch, with Tripic targeted by hostile messages on his official Instagram account. Posts criticised both his approach to the match and his exchange with Olise, with some accusing him of relying on provocation because of the difference in ability between the two players.

The reaction has turned an intense European night into a wider argument over gamesmanship, provocation and responsibility. Tripic saw a successful defensive plan and an opponent drawn off balance; Bayern saw a player whose conduct helped create the flashpoint that changed the match.
