Three weeks after the international break began, the Bundesliga returns with a Rhine derby carrying early pressure for both clubs. 1. FC Köln host Borussia Mönchengladbach at the RheinEnergieSTADION on Sunday afternoon.
Gladbach arrive after four straight defeats
Borussia Mönchengladbach used the extended break to address problems from the opening phase of the season. The work now needs to show immediately.
- Gladbach have lost each of their first four matches of the campaign.
- The Rhine derby is their first opportunity to halt that run.
- The visitors face significant pressure despite the season still being young.
Köln also seek a response
Köln did not enter the pause with momentum either. The home side went three matches without a win before league football stopped.
Sunday’s meeting therefore offers both sides a chance to reset their season. Köln have home advantage in a derby, while Gladbach need a result after their difficult start.
