Aaron Rodgers Takes Sole Possession of Third on Career TD Pass List

Aaron Rodgers moved into sole possession of third place on the NFL’s career touchdown-pass list Sunday, throwing his 580th and 581st scores in the Pittsburgh Steelers’ game against the Indianapolis Colts.

The 42-year-old quarterback opened the day tied with Peyton Manning at 579 touchdown passes when postseason production is included. Rodgers broke that tie in the first quarter by hitting running back Jaylen Warren for an 80-yard touchdown.

He added to the record later in the first half, connecting with tight end Pat Freiermuth for an 8-yard touchdown in the second quarter. That pass gave Rodgers 581 career touchdown throws.

Rodgers now trails Brady and Brees

Only two quarterbacks remain ahead of Rodgers on the combined regular-season and playoff list: Tom Brady with 737 touchdown passes and Drew Brees with 608.

Rank Quarterback Career touchdown passes
1 Tom Brady 737
2 Drew Brees 608
3 Aaron Rodgers 581

Rodgers had drawn even with Manning after a three-touchdown performance in Pittsburgh’s Week 4 loss to the Cleveland Browns. His two scoring throws against Indianapolis pushed him past the Hall of Fame quarterback, who entered Canton in 2021.

Rodgers has indicated that he intends to retire after this season. With Brees 27 touchdown passes ahead of him, Rodgers is likely to close his career in third place.

Another milestone in a decorated career

The touchdown record is the latest addition to a résumé that already places Rodgers among the most accomplished quarterbacks in league history. He won four AP NFL MVP awards during 18 seasons with the Green Bay Packers, along with a Super Bowl title, 10 Pro Bowl selections and four first-team All-Pro honors.

Rodgers also ranks fifth all-time in career completions and passing yards. Sunday’s performance against the Colts gave him another major place on the NFL’s all-time passing leaderboard, with Manning now behind him in touchdown passes.
