Al-Arabi’s Rodri Sánchez Set for Ankle Surgery After Injury

In Doha, where Rodri Sánchez had quickly become one of Al-Arabi’s most productive attacking figures, the former Real Betis midfielder now faces an enforced pause. The 26-year-old Spaniard has sustained an ankle injury that will require surgery in the coming days, leaving him out for several months.

An abrupt stop in Qatar

Al-Arabi confirmed that Rodri underwent medical examinations after suffering the problem, with the club’s medical staff subsequently deciding that an operation was necessary. The Qatari side has not set a precise return date.

His recovery period will depend on how he responds after the procedure, as well as the treatment and rehabilitation programme that follows. It is a significant setback for a player who had avoided major physical troubles for much of his senior career.

A leading role since leaving Seville

Rodri, from Talayuela in Extremadura, joined Al-Arabi in the summer of 2024 after his time with Real Betis. He has established himself rapidly in the club’s domestic campaigns, producing goals and creativity from attacking midfield.

  • Age: 26
  • Al-Arabi record: 67 official appearances
  • Goals in Qatar: 17
  • Assists in Qatar: 35
  • Real Betis first-team record: 127 official matches
  • Goals for Betis: 8
  • Assists for Betis: 15

A difficult spell ahead

The ankle operation comes at an especially awkward point for Rodri, who was enjoying one of the strongest stretches of his career since moving to Qatar. After becoming a central contributor for Al-Arabi, he must now navigate a lengthy absence and wait for his post-surgery progress to determine when he can return to the pitch.
