Mendizorroza has often proved an awkward stop for Atlético, and the Madrid club know that their current momentum will be tested in the Basque country. A result would preserve pressure on Barcelona at the top of the standings.
Alavés, coached by Quique Sánchez Flores, enter the fixture sixth in the table and currently occupy a Conference League position. Their recent league form has lacked consistency, but home advantage offers an opportunity to halt that uneven sequence.
For the Babazorros, three points would strengthen a European push that has given their season early shape. For Atlético, the visit is another chance to turn a productive league spell into a more serious challenge at the summit.
