Marseille return to the Vélodrome on Sunday night with Paris Saint-Germain waiting, and Bruno Genesio still keeping his final decisions behind closed doors. The Ligue 1 fifth-round meeting kicks off at 20:45, with Amine Harit in contention to take the No. 10 role from Angel Gomes.
Marseille keep their plans private
- OM’s players arrived back in Marseille during the night between Thursday and Friday.
- They were given Saturday morning to recover before returning for an afternoon training session.
- The squad then ate together at La Commanderie before heading home ahead of the PSG match.
- Genesio did not stage a full tactical rehearsal on Saturday and did not reveal his starting XI to the group. He will make the final adjustments on Sunday.
Harit could be brought into the central attacking position in a conventional shape, replacing Gomes behind the forwards. Keyliane Abdallah and Igor Paixao are options to provide pace from the wide areas.
Genesio sees no immediate need for a back five
The possibility of switching to a five-man defence has been discussed ahead of the Classique. Marseille used that approach under Roberto De Zerbi when they beat PSG 1-0 at the Vélodrome in September 2025.
Genesio remembers that result, but believes Marseille’s recent performances do not necessarily demand a structural change. “That match is in my mind,” he said. “But I do not think we need to rethink the system today, because for 50 to 55 minutes, in Rennes and in Istanbul, we did more than match two very competitive teams that invested heavily over the summer. It became more difficult in the final half-hour.”
Injury situation
- Geoffrey Kondogbia remains unavailable with an adductor problem and is expected to resume training at the beginning of October.
- Tochukwu Nnadi, who suffered a meniscus injury at Monaco, will not undergo surgery.
- Marseille expect Nnadi’s recovery period to be longer despite the decision against an operation.
