Armin Reutershahn remains on the training pitch at 66. The 1. FC Köln assistant has worked in more than 1,200 matches and brings over 35 years of experience to René Wagner’s staff.
The sporting fact
Reutershahn began his assistant-coach career in 1991 under Friedhelm Funkel at Bayer Uerdingen. He was presented with a shirt marking his 1,000th match while at Eintracht Frankfurt in 2019, but says his total has continued to rise well beyond that landmark.
His Bundesliga route has included several major stations. At Hamburger SV, he worked with Frank Pagelsdorf as the club reached the Champions League. He later assisted Huub Stevens and Armin Veh in Stuttgart.
Reutershahn also saw Julian Nagelsmann’s early development at Hoffenheim and worked alongside Edin Terzic at Borussia Dortmund. At Köln, he is part of Wagner’s coaching group and has identified similarities between the young head coach and Nagelsmann.
He has also highlighted the personality of Köln prospect Said El Mala as a notable part of the player’s profile.
