In the small Savoyard commune of Saint-Étienne-de-Cuines, a club from the tenth level of French football has written one of the early shocks of the 2026-27 Coupe de France. AS Cuines beat National 1 side AS Saint-Priest 1-0 on Sunday to reach the fifth round.

Cuines, who play in D2 district football, went into the fourth-round tie separated from Saint-Priest by six divisions. Saint-Priest compete in Group C of National 1 and currently stand 12th, but could not find a way past the amateur side.
The decisive goal came after half-time, securing a 1-0 victory for the Savoy club and one of the standout upsets of this season’s competition.
It continues an impressive cup run for Cuines, who began their campaign in the second round. They first defeated Modane, a D3 team, by a 3-2 scoreline, before beating Club Sportif des 4 Routes, also from D2, 4-1.
AS Cuines are based in Saint-Étienne-de-Cuines, a municipality with a population of 1,186 in 2023.
The next appointment in France
The fifth round promises an even steeper test for Cuines. Professional clubs from Ligue 3 are due to enter the Coupe de France at that stage, leaving the district side one draw away from another demanding night.
