Atalanta vs Venezia: Sarri’s Side Aim to Extend Dominant Serie A Record

Atalanta and Venezia meet with recent history heavily tilted towards the Bergamo side, but their latest Serie A encounter ended without a goal. The 0-0 draw at the Gewiss Stadium on 1 March 2025 offers Venezia a small point of reference as they prepare for another demanding afternoon against Maurizio Sarri’s team.

Atalanta have won six of the last seven Serie A meetings between the clubs. Venezia will arrive under Giovanni Stroppa knowing that the record leaves little room for a passive performance, even if the most recent league fixture showed that the gap can be closed over 90 minutes.

Quick facts

  • Atalanta have won six of their past seven Serie A matches against Venezia.
  • The exception was the goalless draw in Bergamo on 1 March 2025.
  • Giovanni Stroppa is expected to set Venezia up in a 3-5-2.
  • Maurizio Sarri’s Atalanta are set to begin in a 4-2-3-1.
  • Paride Tremolada of Monza will referee the match.
  • The game will be shown live on DAZN 1, channel 214, for subscribers.

Stroppa’s projected Venezia side has Stankovic in goal, behind a three-man defence of Halhal, Juan Jesus and Moreno. Hainaut and Correia are expected to operate on the flanks, with Kike Perez, Sohm and Basic in midfield.

Adams and Yeboah are due to lead the Venezia attack. It is a selection that gives Stroppa experience through the middle while asking his wing-backs to provide the width against an Atalanta side built with several attacking options behind its striker.

Sarri is expected to start Carnesecchi in goal for Atalanta. Bellanova, Scalvini, Kristensen and Zappacosta should form the defensive line, with Kessie and Ederson stationed in midfield.

Elmas, De Ketelaere and Rowe are set to support Krstovic in the visitors’ expected 4-2-3-1. The contest will therefore place Venezia’s back three against a forward line designed to move between the lines, while Atalanta must find a way through a side likely to crowd central areas.

Tremolada will be assisted by Mattia Regattieri and Lorenzo Giuggioli. Giovanni Ayroldi has been appointed fourth official, while Francesco Meraviglia will oversee VAR duties with Marco Piccinini as assistant VAR.

For Atalanta, the match is another opportunity to turn a favourable head-to-head record into league momentum. For Venezia, the memory of last season’s clean sheet in Bergamo is evidence that the fixture need not follow its usual script.
