Atlético Madrid Host Manchester United in Champions League Clash

Madrid’s Metropolitano will stage a meeting of two European names arriving from markedly different domestic positions when Atlético de Madrid host Manchester United in the 2026/27 Champions League league phase on Tuesday, 13 October.

The second-round fixture begins at 16:00 Brasília time, with Diego Simeone’s side seeking their first points in the competition and Michael Carrick’s United looking for relief from a difficult opening to the English season. Space and HBO Max will show the match in Brazil.

Two contrasting starts

1. Manchester United opened their Champions League campaign with a victory over Sabah, offering Carrick’s squad a possible route towards confidence after its troubled league form.
2. Atlético began in more demanding surroundings at Anfield, where Liverpool won 2-1 against the Madrid club.
3. In La Liga, Atlético have made a strong start and sit second, with Barcelona the only team above them.
4. United, meanwhile, have won only one of their first six Premier League matches. They stand 13th on six points and have also exited the League Cup after defeat to Brighton.

A win in the Spanish capital would carry particular weight for Carrick, whose position has come under pressure during United’s poor domestic run. Beating Atlético away from home could give their European campaign a stronger foundation.

Team news from Madrid

Simeone is not expected to be missing any players for the contest. United travel without centre-back Matthijs de Ligt and full-backs Noussair Mazraoui and Patrick Dorgu.
