Barcelona’s training ground will take on a stripped-back feel during the first three-week international pause of the 2026-27 campaign, with 17 fit first-team and academy players leaving for national-team duty across Europe, South America and Africa.
Hansi Flick will have only Wojciech Szczesny, Alejandro Balde, Gerard Martín, Gavi, Brian Fariñas and Gabriel Jesus available for work this week. Frenkie de Jong, Joan García, Roony Bardghji and Andreas Christensen are injured; all four could otherwise have joined their respective countries.
The club’s next Liga fixture is not until Getafe visit Barcelona on Saturday 10 October, with kick-off scheduled for 18:30.
Spain group brings Barcelona teammates together
Spain supply the largest Barcelona contingent, with Pau Cubarsí, Eric García, Rodri Hernández, Pedri, Fermín López, Dani Olmo and Lamine Yamal selected for four Nations League matches.
Three of those fixtures will put them directly against club colleagues. Spain travel to London to face Anthony Gordon’s England on Saturday 26 September at 20:45, before hosting Dominik Livaković and Croatia in Seville on Tuesday 29 September. The return meeting with Croatia takes place in Split on Tuesday 6 October.
Gordon and Livaković will also meet when England play Croatia in Rijeka on Saturday 3 October.
International calls across the continent and beyond
Karim Adeyemi has been called up by Germany, Jules Koundé joins France, Raphinha heads to Brazil, João Cancelo is in Portugal’s squad and Hamza Albelkarim has been selected by Egypt.
Barcelona will also have representation at under-21 level. Marc Bernal and Xavi Espart are due to link up with Spain’s Under-21 side, while Jesse Bisiwu has been chosen by Belgium Under-21.
Goalkeeper Iker Rodríguez will remain away until Friday after being included in Spain Under-19 training. He was part of Flick’s matchday group for the trip to Seville last Saturday.
