Feyenoord Fans Spark Seville Disorder Before Real Betis Champions League Tie

Real Betis’ Champions League meeting with Feyenoord will take place under heightened security after serious overnight disorder in central Seville, where a group of around 50 radical visiting supporters were reported to have attacked homeless people, clashed with campers and damaged public property.

Feyenoord were allocated 3,385 tickets for the away section, although that figure does not establish the total number of Dutch supporters in Seville, with further fans believed to have obtained tickets independently.

Police intervene after disturbances across the historic centre

National Police and Seville’s Local Police were called in as the incidents spread through several parts of the old city. Officers charged on Calle Regina in an effort to stop the violence.

Before that intervention, individuals sleeping beneath the arcades on Calle Imagen were allegedly assaulted. There were also confrontations involving people camped near Las Setas, while disorder reached the Alameda de Hércules area.

Bins, large plant containers and other street fixtures were damaged during the incidents, with some vehicles also sustaining damage.

A high-risk European night

The fixture had already been classified as high risk by Spain’s Standing Commission against Violence, Racism, Xenophobia and Intolerance in Sport. The disturbances have added a severe security backdrop to a Champions League night in which Betis will host Feyenoord at La Cartuja.
