At the Stade Armand-Cesari, a fierce opening-night contest of Ligue 3’s seventh round ended level after a fine strike, a red card and a mass confrontation: Bastia 1-1 Cannes.
The Ligue 1 news
Cannes made the sharper start and went ahead in the 16th minute through Cédric Gonçalves, whose superb long-range effort gave the visitors an early advantage.
Bastia responded 11 minutes later. Clément Rodrigues brought the home side back into the match in the 27th minute, restoring parity before the game took a more volatile turn shortly before half-time.
Erawan Garnier was sent off in the 42nd minute following a tackle that sparked a general melee between the two teams. Bastia were left with 10 men for the entire second half, while Cannes had the numerical advantage.
Despite that extra player, Cannes could not find a winner. The second period was calmer than the first, but neither side managed to break the deadlock again.
The 1-1 result leaves both Bastia and Cannes provisionally inside the top six, with the remaining fixtures from matchday seven still to be played.
