Dallas Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer believes the defense’s players-only meeting was a positive development, even after Pittsburgh Steelers coach Mike Tomlin criticized the idea.
The meeting was organized by Cowboys defensive players as the team looks to address issues internally. Schottenheimer viewed the gathering as evidence that the unit is taking ownership of its performance and holding itself accountable.
Schottenheimer backs defensive leadership
Rather than treating the meeting as a sign of dysfunction, Schottenheimer said it reflected leadership within the locker room. He sees value in players speaking directly with one another and working through concerns as a group.
Tomlin has since panned the players-only meeting, but Schottenheimer’s position is that the Cowboys defense taking initiative can benefit the club.
