Bayern Munich and VfB Stuttgart have won reductions to the fines imposed after the 2026 DFB-Pokal final, although both clubs still face substantial payments following pyrotechnic incidents in Berlin.
The sporting fact
The DFB Sports Court had initially fined each club €260,000 after the final at the Olympiastadion on 23 May. Following written objections, Stuttgart’s sanction has been reduced to €200,000 and Bayern’s to €170,000.
No explanation was given for the revised amounts.
Both clubs may allocate one third of their fines to their own safety or violence-prevention work. They also retain the right to appeal to the DFB Federal Court within one week.
Bayern beat Stuttgart 3-0 to lift the cup for the first time in six years. The score was goalless at half-time before Bayern took control after the break.
The match was affected by extensive pyrotechnic use from both sets of supporters. More than 300 devices were recorded on each side. Smoke forced a three-minute stoppage from the 51st minute, adding to the disciplinary penalty.
Bayern and Stuttgart had argued that they were not the organisers of the final and pointed to what they described as systematic failures in entry checks. The DFB’s position was that participating clubs cannot simply rely on that argument.
