Munich’s Allianz Arena became the setting for a ruthless Bayern performance as Union Berlin were swept aside 7-0, a result that left the visitors with their bleakest opening to a Bundesliga season. Union have collected only one point from their first three league matches.
Bayern set the tone early, turning a fast recovery by Alphonso Davies into the opening goal. The Canadian found Jamal Musiala, who shifted inside from the edge of the box and drove a cross-field shot into the far corner for his first goal of the campaign.
Quick facts
- Bayern Munich defeated Union Berlin 7-0 at the Allianz Arena.
- Harry Kane reached 100 Bundesliga goals in 98 appearances, the fastest mark in competition history.
- Michael Olise scored three times and supplied Kane’s second goal.
- Ismael Saibari registered his first goal in German football.
- Union Berlin have one point after three Bundesliga rounds.
The second came from the penalty spot after Felix Uduokhai brought down Olise in the area. Kane sent Frederik Rønnow the wrong way, bringing up his century of Bundesliga goals in a record 98 matches.
Olise then made sure Bayern went into the interval three goals clear. Rønnow had repelled an attempt from Musiala, but the loose ball fell to the Frenchman outside the box and he struck first time into the top-right corner.
The home side resumed without easing off. Olise delivered a measured cross into the danger area for Kane, whose forceful low header made it 4-0 and completed his brace.
Davies was again involved as Ismael Saibari added the fifth. The Moroccan turned, accelerated beyond Leopold Querfeld and beat Rønnow at his near post for his first goal in the German game.
Tom Bischof helped turn the final stages into an Olise show. His lofted pass sent Olise through before the French attacker reached the ball ahead of the advancing Rønnow and rolled it into an unguarded net for Bayern’s sixth.
Olise completed the rout soon afterwards, again combining with Bischof before controlling outside the area and curling a finish into the right-hand top corner. The 7-0 scoreline sealed his first Bayern hat-trick and capped an emphatic night in Munich.
