Bayern Munich Thrash Union Berlin 7-0 to Go Top of Bundesliga

Munich was already turning towards the Wiesn, the local name for Oktoberfest, when Bayern gave the city an emphatic sporting opening at the Allianz Arena. Wearing a special festival kit instead of their customary red, Vincent Kompany’s side swept Union Berlin aside 7-0 and returned to the top of the Bundesliga.

The news from the club

Michael Olise was the central figure in Bayern’s celebration, scoring three times in a commanding home performance, while Harry Kane reached a remarkable personal landmark with a first-half penalty.

Jamal Musiala started the scoring in the 17th minute. Collecting the ball at the edge of the area, the Germany midfielder struck firmly past the goalkeeper for his first Bundesliga goal since April.

Bayern’s control was reflected in a second goal shortly before the interval. Kane converted from the spot in the 37th minute, bringing up 100 goals in only 98 appearances. The England captain has surpassed Dieter Müller’s previous mark, set when the Köln forward reached a century in 129 matches in 1977.

Olise then began his own scoring run before half-time. In the 42nd minute, the French winger drove a precise effort from outside the box towards the near corner, catching Frederik Rønnow off guard.

Union briefly asked a question of Manuel Neuer after the restart, but Bayern quickly restored their authority. Kane struck again in the 53rd minute after an excellent delivery from Olise.

Ismael Saibari, introduced from the bench, added another after a strong individual move in the 70th minute. The closing stages belonged entirely to Olise. He brought down a long ball from Tom Bischof in the 73rd minute, rounded Rønnow with ease and finished, then completed his hat-trick three minutes later with a long-range shot.

The result offered Bayern a forceful response after their draw with Schalke 04 two rounds earlier. Union, unable to contain the hosts across the evening, are now 16th in the table.
