The Buffalo Bills opened their new Highmark Stadium in emphatic fashion Thursday night, using fireworks before kickoff and a high-powered offensive performance to beat the Detroit Lions 41-31.
Buffalo’s 10-point victory was more convincing than the final margin suggested, with the Bills controlling much of the night and repeatedly finding the end zone during the stadium’s first game. The celebration paired the franchise’s new home with a statement win over one of the NFC’s top opponents.
Detroit kept scoring enough to keep the final score respectable, but the Lions were unable to match Buffalo’s overall control as the Bills turned their housewarming into a 41-point showcase.
