Bogdan Lobonț Reunites with De Rossi and El Shaarawy in Bucharest

Genoa’s trip to Bucharest for a friendly against Rapid has provided an unexpected Roman interlude, with former Roma goalkeeper Bogdan Lobonț meeting Daniele De Rossi and Stephan El Shaarawy in the Romanian capital.

Lobonț used the occasion to reunite with two players from his long spell at Roma, sharing photographs of the meeting on social media. The former goalkeeper wrote: “Some dressing rooms are never forgotten. Some memories remain forever. Roma in my heart, always.”

Quick facts

  • Genoa are in Bucharest for a friendly match against Rapid.
  • Bogdan Lobonț met Daniele De Rossi and Stephan El Shaarawy during the visit.
  • The Romanian goalkeeper spent nine seasons at Roma, from 2009 to 2018.
  • He made 28 appearances for the Giallorossi.
  • Lobonț, 48, now works for Fotbal Club Olimpia Satu Mare.

The meeting carries the weight of a shared Roma era. Lobonț arrived in the summer of 2009 and remained at the Olimpico until 2018, overlapping for much of that period with De Rossi and El Shaarawy.

Although his opportunities on the pitch were limited, the Romanian made 28 appearances in goal across his nine years in the capital. He was regarded as a dependable figure within the squad, particularly when Roma needed cover, and his professionalism made him an important presence away from matchday.

Now 48 and retired from playing, Lobonț has continued his work in football after holding several roles at Rapid. He is currently with Fotbal Club Olimpia Satu Mare.

Before his long Roma chapter, Lobonț also played for Ajax and Fiorentina. His reunion with De Rossi and El Shaarawy was a reminder that, even as clubs move through new seasons and new coaches, some dressing-room bonds outlast the years.
