Inter’s visit to Bologna on Saturday arrives at an awkward point in the calendar, placed between the second and third rounds of the Champions League league phase. Cristian Chivu will set Europe aside for a few days as his side return to the domestic rhythm at the Dall’Ara, where squad management is likely to shape his choices.
Carlos Augusto is expected to come back into contention after being left unused for the full 90 minutes against Club Brugge. The Brazilian had not been in suitable physical condition, and Chivu chose not to expose him to further risk despite having considered using him.
He did not train with the main group on the previous day and will again work separately, but the expectation is that he will be available for the Bologna trip. His return would offer Chivu another option as Inter consider changes following their European engagement.
Rotation options and Bonny’s claim
Benjamin Pavard could be among the players restored to the starting line-up in defence, with the coach assessing the demands of a week that moves quickly from Europe back to Serie A.
Further forward, Ange-Yoan Bonny has strengthened his case for a first start of the season. The Ivorian scored Inter’s third goal at San Siro on Tuesday night, making an immediate impact despite spending only 12 minutes on the pitch.
Bonny has so far featured five times in Serie A and twice in the Champions League, each appearance coming from the bench. His goal against Brugge has underlined both his current form and his determination to move from substitute to starter as Inter prepare for a demanding afternoon in Bologna.
