The decisive third goal arrived 12 minutes after the restart. Chema Andrés was on hand in the area following a corner and converted from close range, completing a convincing afternoon for Brighton.
With a three-goal margin established, Brighton saw out the closing stages without allowing Arsenal the attacking response they needed. The visitors left without a point from a match that carries considerable weight in the opening weeks of the campaign.
Race at the top tightens
Brighton’s victory moved them into third place on 10 points, matching Arsenal’s total after five rounds. Arsenal remain second, but their defeat has opened a clearer path for Manchester City.
City have 12 points and still have their fixture against Sunderland to play in this round. A win would place them alone at the top of the table.
