Paris Saint-Germain explored a move for Atalanta forward Charles De Ketelaere during the summer window before choosing Ferran Torres as Gonçalo Ramos’s replacement.
The Belgian international has confirmed that he held discussions with the French champions, although no deal developed and Torres arrived from Barcelona instead. Ramos had departed for AC Milan, leaving PSG in the market for another attacking option.
De Ketelaere reveals PSG contact
De Ketelaere, 25, said Atalanta’s valuation was a major obstacle for any potential transfer. The former AC Milan player believes the Bergamo club were seeking roughly €50 million.
“There were clubs interested, but with the fees in today’s market, it is not always easy to leave,” De Ketelaere said. “I know Atalanta wanted a lot. I think it was around €50 million, but you need to find a club willing to pay it.
“Several Premier League clubs could have done that, but it did not happen. I spoke with PSG, but they eventually selected Ferran Torres.”
PSG’s decision brought Torres to Paris, while De Ketelaere remained in Serie A with Atalanta. The Belgian has 35 international caps and nine goals for his country.
Atalanta stay suits Belgian forward
Despite the interest around him, De Ketelaere said he is content with his current role at Atalanta. His difficult spell at Milan has also made regular starts especially important to him.
“I am happy at Atalanta,” he said. “After my time at AC Milan, I understand how important it is to be a starter.
“One day, I would like to compete for trophies. That ambition is there, but I am 25 and still have time.”
