In Las Rozas, on the outskirts of Madrid, Spain’s Copa del Rey first-round draw has set out a late-October route from regional grounds to the country’s established professional clubs. The 112-team round will be played across 27, 28 and 29 October, with every tie decided in a single match.
A draw built around local journeys
The draw used four pots and a geographical proximity criterion, while preserving a central Copa tradition: whenever opponents come from different levels, the lower-ranked club receives home advantage. Sixteen top-flight teams enter at this stage. Real Madrid, Barcelona, Real Sociedad and Atlético de Madrid do not, as their participation in the Spanish Super Cup gives them a bye through to the round of 32.

The competition rules
The first round, like the rounds that follow before the semi-finals, is played over one game. The semi-final is the exception, with a two-leg format.
- VAR will not be used before the round of 16.
- A player will serve a suspension after accumulating three yellow cards.
- A straight red card also brings a ban.
