In the wake of Lionel Messi’s farewell with Argentina, a gesture from Riyadh underlined the respect shared by two of football’s defining figures. Cristiano Ronaldo, now at Al-Nassr, responded publicly to Messi’s Instagram post marking Tuesday night.
Ronaldo wrote that Messi’s many years representing his country had created “a legacy that will endure”, adding that he had complete respect for what the Argentine had achieved with the national team. He closed his message with an embrace.
The tribute quickly drew strong support from supporters online, with former Real Madrid captain Raúl González also among those replying to Messi’s post.
Raúl congratulated Messi and wished the Argentine forward and his family well, adding another prominent voice to the messages following the Argentina No. 10’s goodbye.
