Juventus may return to the goalkeeper market next summer with Frosinone’s Stefano Palmisani still under consideration, but the conditions around the 2004-born Italy Under-21 international have changed sharply since initial contact last year.
The Turin club had discussed Palmisani during talks over Arthur’s contract termination, with both players represented by Federico Pastorello. At that stage, Juventus were looking beyond Guglielmo Vicario, who had arrived on loan from Tottenham, for a younger goalkeeper who could develop as part of the squad.
Yet all parties accepted that Palmisani needed regular football rather than an immediate move into the role of reserve at one of Italy’s biggest clubs. The discussions with Frosinone therefore never developed into a formal negotiation, leaving any possible move for the following summer.
A different position for Frosinone
Since then, Palmisani’s standing has risen. His performances for Frosinone and with Italy’s Under-21 side have reinforced his reputation as a dependable goalkeeper, while his club have acted to protect their position in the market.
Frosinone have extended his deal with a new five-year contract, ensuring that they will have greater leverage should offers arrive. Juventus remain among the possible destinations, but the prospect of acquiring him cheaply has disappeared.
Pastorello indicated that Juventus could renew their interest when the next summer window opens, while also making clear that English clubs had made enquiries during the most recent transfer period. Premier League interest is now another factor in what could become a competitive pursuit.
Juventus must settle their goalkeeper plans
The issue is likely to become clearer when Juventus define the make-up of their goalkeeping department. Two of their current options are approaching the end of their contracts, while Vicario’s early impact appears to have persuaded the club that a permanent move should be considered.
The question of the deputy goalkeeper remains unresolved, and Palmisani fits the profile Juventus had previously identified: young, already tested in senior football and with international experience at Under-21 level. But his development at Frosinone means any deal would require a substantial investment rather than an opportunistic agreement.
For now, Palmisani has remained focused on improving on the pitch, despite the growing attention around him. Frosinone are preparing to demand a significant fee, Juventus are still watching, and Premier League sides may yet turn an Italian scouting target into a wider summer contest.
