Dani Carvajal’s Proposed Getafe Move Collapses at Final Stage

In the southern Madrid suburb where Getafe have been weighing up defensive reinforcements, Dani Carvajal will not be returning to football with the Azulones after all. The proposed move for the 34-year-old Spanish right-back has collapsed at the final stage, prolonging his time without a club.

Getafe negotiations end without agreement

  1. Carvajal had emerged as a serious option for Getafe in recent days, with José Bordalás’ side seeking greater depth on the right of their defence.
  2. The veteran defender, formerly captain of Spain, had been expected to resume his career after leaving Real Madrid in June.
  3. Getafe president Ángel Torres confirmed that the discussions had ended. “Everything has broken down; there is nothing,” he said when asked about Carvajal’s possible arrival.
  4. The deal will therefore not be completed, leaving Carvajal unattached for a further period.

A decorated career interrupted by injury

Carvajal left Real Madrid with 27 trophies, but the end of his spell at the European giants was affected by a serious knee injury suffered in 2025. His contract expired in June and he has remained inactive since then.

Despite his age and recent physical setback, his record keeps him among Spain’s most accomplished full-backs of recent years. He has not indicated where he intends to continue his career, and must now consider any opportunities that emerge in the coming months.

Getafe look ahead to Barcelona

Without Carvajal, Bordalás will continue to rely principally on Andrés García and Sebastián Boselli at right-back.

Getafe’s next assignment is a demanding visit to the Spotify Camp Nou on 10 October, when they face unbeaten LaLiga champions Barcelona in the eighth round of the season. The Madrid club will make the trip without the experienced addition they had hoped to secure.
