In Athens, Dani García has chosen a new address rather than a new country. The 36-year-old Spanish midfielder has left Olympiacos for Atromitos, extending his stay in Greek football after two trophy-filled seasons in Piraeus.

García joins Atromitos on a one-year contract and will keep the number 14 shirt. The club sit 11th in the Greek Super League 1 after five rounds, offering the former Athletic Club player a different challenge from the title expectations he knew at Olympiacos.
His departure from Piraeus ends a spell of 72 appearances for Olympiacos. Having arrived alongside José Luis Mendilibar two seasons ago, García helped the club collect a league title, the Greek Cup and the Super Cup.
There was no longer a clear place for him following Olympiacos’ change of direction, with Mendilibar dismissed and Imanol Alguacil appointed as head coach.
The midfielder, from Zumarraga in the Basque Country, said Atromitos represented an energising next step in his career.
“I am very happy to be at Atromitos. It is an exciting move for me and I hope we can achieve good things between now and the end of the season,” García said. “My Greek and Spanish friends spoke very highly of the club and of the family feeling around it. Everything I have achieved in football and in life has come from giving everything, and that will not change now.”
