Randal Kolo Muani left Juventus’ meeting with Atalanta without the Serie A goal he has been chasing for 210 days, yet his afternoon offered a more convincing measure of his value. The French forward turned recent frustration at the Allianz Stadium into sustained applause with a performance built on running, duels, defensive work and a decisive intervention at his own end.
Luciano Spalletti had urged supporters to keep faith in the striker after whistles were heard late in the match against Milan. Against Atalanta, Kolo Muani gave them reasons to do so. The Juventus coach now believes the forward can become “the signing of October”, a player whose contribution may be growing even before his league scoring record changes.
A fuller display against Atalanta
The tone was set inside the opening two minutes. With more room available behind the Atalanta defence, Kolo Muani beat Kristensen near the left side of the penalty area and forced Marco Carnesecchi into a save.
It was the beginning of a far more complete outing than his recent league appearances. He had managed only nine shots across his previous five matches, but registered three attempts in this game alone. Carnesecchi denied him the personal reward late on, but Juventus had already seen the version of Kolo Muani they need: mobile across the front line, stronger when receiving with his back to goal and willing to work without the ball.

Spalletti was particularly pleased by the mood of his striker after the final whistle. “I am happy to see him happy and smiling in the dressing room,” the coach said.
The manager understands that a centre-forward’s confidence is often tied to goals, making Kolo Muani’s response to his continuing league drought significant. The former Paris Saint-Germain attacker remains on zero Serie A goals, although he has scored three times in cup competition: twice against Tottenham and once against Juventus.
Kolo Muani did not hide his primary responsibility. “I have to score,” he said. “Sometimes the goals come and sometimes they do not, but I am happy when the team wins and when I have given everything on the pitch.”
He treated the goal-line block in the same spirit. “It is a question of mentality,” he added. “I was there, and we are like brothers on the pitch. I am happy with what we did; everyone gave everything together.”
For one afternoon, the absence of a league goal mattered less than the shape of his contribution. Juventus will still expect Kolo Muani to end that 210-day wait soon, but against Atalanta he showed that a striker can influence the championship story even without deciding it on the scoresheet.
