The Dodgers reshuffled their pitching staff after Monday’s game, bringing right-handers Emmet Sheehan and Kyle Hurt back to the major league club while sending Seth Halvorsen out and placing left-hander Tarik Skubal on the bereavement list.
A fresh pair of arms for Los Angeles
- Sheehan was recalled after working six scoreless innings against Miami last Sunday. The 26-year-old has gone 5-8 for Los Angeles in 2026, making a career-best 22 starts and striking out 123 hitters across 107 innings with a 1.21 WHIP.
- Hurt also joined the roster for his fifth call-up of the season. The 28-year-old right-hander is 4-1 with a 4.33 ERA and 56 strikeouts in 43 2/3 innings this year.
- Halvorsen was optioned after pitching a clean inning with two strikeouts Monday night. Skubal, who started that game, was moved to the bereavement list.
Sheehan has become a familiar rotation option in his third Dodgers season. Over 50 big league games, including 45 starts, he owns a 15-12 record and a 4.23 ERA. Los Angeles selected the Boston College product in the sixth round of the 2021 First-Year Player Draft.
Hurt, a Southern California native and former USC pitcher, has spent parts of three seasons with the Dodgers. He carries a 4-2 career record with a 3.78 ERA, striking out 62 batters in 52 1/3 innings. The Marlins originally drafted him in the fifth round in 2020.
Halvorsen heads back out
Halvorsen’s final appearance before the move was a strong one, but his Dodgers line has been rougher overall. In 11 appearances for Los Angeles, the 26-year-old right-hander went 1-1 with an 8.10 ERA.
Before arriving in Los Angeles, Halvorsen appeared 21 times for Colorado this season and posted a 4.74 ERA in an 0-1 stretch. Between the Rockies and Dodgers, he has worked in 86 major league games since 2024, compiling a 4-5 record, a 4.78 ERA and 72 strikeouts over 81 innings. Colorado drafted the University of Tennessee right-hander in the seventh round in 2023.
Skubal steps away after Monday start
Skubal allowed four runs over five innings Monday night before the Dodgers placed him on the bereavement list. The 29-year-old has made nine starts since arriving from Detroit, going 4-2 with a 2.95 ERA over 55 innings.
For the season, the two-time Cy Young Award winner is 11-7 with a 2.85 ERA in 25 starts. Across seven major league seasons, Skubal has built a 65-44 record and 3.04 ERA in 162 appearances, 159 of them starts. He has struck out 1,065 batters in 918 1/3 innings while posting a 1.02 WHIP.
The Tigers drafted Skubal out of the University of Seattle in the ninth round of the 2018 First-Year Player Draft. For now, the Dodgers will lean on the returning Sheehan and Hurt while Skubal takes the necessary time away from the club.
