OGC Nice are reshaping the recruitment structure around their academy, with former defender Eric Cubilier set to take charge of youth scouting after Fabien Caballero’s departure.
Cubilier to lead academy recruitment
- Nice confirmed on Tuesday that their collaboration with Fabien Caballero had ended.
- Caballero had spent the previous 18 months overseeing the recruitment of young players as deputy director of the club’s academy, having previously worked as Julien Sablé’s assistant.
- After discussions with the club’s hierarchy and academy director Sablé, Cubilier was chosen to succeed him in the youth recruitment role.
- The appointment was expected to be formally signed on Friday.
Cubilier arrives with a long association with the Côte d’Azur club. The former Nice and Monaco player moved into scouting seven years ago, working within the Eagles’ professional recruitment department.
His new position will place him at the centre of Nice’s search for academy talent, while he is also due to retain part of his existing responsibilities in France for the senior scouting unit.
A dual role in Nice’s scouting network
The change gives Nice an internal successor rather than an outside appointment, with Cubilier moving from the professional side of the recruitment operation into a key academy role.
He will now work alongside Sablé as the club seeks to identify and attract young players for its development system, while continuing to contribute to senior-level scouting across France.
