The autumn calm lasted only a few weeks for Ethan Mbappé. Lille’s 19-year-old winger was forced off in discomfort during Sunday’s trip to Nice, just before the hour mark, after suffering a fresh physical problem.
Mbappé leaves the field against Nice
- Early in the second half, Mbappé took a knock to the ankle while playing on the right side of Lille’s attack.
- Lille were already preparing to bring on Dilane Bakwa when the young winger felt another issue moments before the planned substitution.
- Mbappé then complained of pain in his calf and left the pitch grimacing in the 55th minute.
- Bakwa entered in his place as Lille were forced into the change during the match in Nice.
A concern before France Under-21 duty
The setback comes at an awkward moment for Mbappé, who has received his first call-up to the France Under-21 squad for the upcoming international break.
The Lille winger has endured frequent injury problems since beginning his professional career. He had, however, avoided physical trouble since the summer, making Sunday’s early exit a potential concern for both LOSC and the France youth set-up.
