France’s under-21 camp suffered an early setback in Estonia on Tuesday as Lille winger Ethan Mbappé’s first start ended after only 12 minutes.
Mbappé forced off in Estonia
- The 19-year-old was selected from the outset for France Under-21s for the first time in the match in Estonia.
- Mbappé was injured while trying to deliver a cross, taking a blow to his ankle.
- After spending a brief period on the ground, he was unable to continue.
- Jean-Mattéo Bahoya came on as his replacement in the 12th minute.
It is too soon to know whether the Lille player will remain with the France Under-21 squad. The group still has two fixtures to play during the international window, against Luxembourg and Switzerland.
Another injury concern for the Mbappé family
Ethan’s withdrawal came four days after his brother Kylian Mbappé left the field with a left-knee problem while playing in Turkey. The younger Mbappé will now await an assessment on the ankle issue sustained during his short first start for the Espoirs.
