Everton’s new Hill Dickinson Stadium will host more than a meeting of old rivals on 26 September, when #Game4Hope brings together familiar names from both sides of the Merseyside divide to raise money for local communities and support efforts against homelessness across Merseyside and the wider region.
Everton and Liverpool legends return for #Game4Hope
Peter Reid, a figure woven into Everton history, and Liverpool great John Barnes will join forces in the dug-out for a Merseyside Legends side. Their squad is set to include Leighton Baines, Gareth Barry, Phil Jagielka, Yakubu, Joleon Lescott and Louis Saha, alongside former Liverpool favourites Robbie Fowler, David James, Ryan Babel, Jari Litmanen and John Aldridge.
Across the pitch will be a Rest of the World team with a rather serious collection of former internationals: Cafu, Clarence Seedorf, Jaap Stam, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink and Mustapha Hadji are among those named. It is the sort of old-boys occasion in which the passes may occasionally arrive a fraction later than they once did, though the names still carry enough weight to fill a grandstand.
The fixture has also been given a particularly lavish fundraising option. The final two immersive packages have been priced at £30,000 per guest, offering supporters the chance to experience the event from inside the camp rather than merely from the seats.
Those taking the package will stay at Everton’s official hotel, eat with the players, travel alongside the squad and take part in the official Friday training day with the teams. They will also be allowed into pre-match briefings involving the side and its manager, share the build-up around the dressing room and hear the manager’s team talk. Access to the warm-up is included before the guests take places on the bench as honorary members of the team.
The £30,000 experience also covers personalised kit, a signed shirt, VIP admission for the match and entry to the post-match celebrations. For a game built around a good cause, it offers an unusually close view of how a football occasion comes together before the first whistle.
