France Prepare for Belgium Clash Without Suspended Upamecano

France returned to Clairefontaine in the early hours after their 1-1 draw with Italy, and attention has already turned to Monday night’s meeting with Belgium. The squad has one enforced absence, but the remaining 21 players are fit and available as Zinédine Zidane considers changes to his starting side.

Dayot Upamecano will miss the match after being sent off late in Friday’s fixture. The centre-back collected a second yellow card against Italy and is automatically suspended for France’s next game.

Upamecano left the national training centre at 9.30am on Saturday and has returned to Bayern Munich. France will host Belgium on Monday at 8.45pm without him.

Recovery work after Italy draw

Saturday was largely devoted to recovery following the team’s late return to Clairefontaine. Players involved against Italy received indoor treatment during the afternoon, while others completed a cycling session.

Those who did not feature on Friday were put through a more demanding workout on the pitch as the staff began preparing the group for Belgium.

Zidane weighing selection changes

Zidane is expected to lead his final training session of the camp on Sunday evening, having faced the media earlier in the day for the pre-match press conference.

Several alterations to the team that started against Italy remain possible. One option under consideration is a first senior France appearance for Guillaume Restes, who has been Mike Maignan’s understudy during this international gathering.

With Upamecano the only unavailable player, Zidane has a 21-man group at his disposal for a significant Monday test against Belgium.
