After 16 years beside France’s senior national team, Franck Raviot has returned to the quieter, foundational work of building the next generation. The former Les Bleus goalkeeping coach is back within the French Football Federation’s technical department, passing on the experience gathered from 214 internationals and eight major tournaments.
A return to the French Football Federation’s technical department
Raviot, 53, has resumed duties at the Direction Technique Nationale, the FFF technical department where he was initially recruited by Aimé Jacquet in 2000. His return follows the end of his long spell with the France senior squad, where he was not retained in Zinédine Zidane’s staff.
His new role is centred on goalkeeper development and specialist coaching education across France. The responsibilities include:
- Training young goalkeepers at the INF national football institute.
- Educating goalkeeper coaches around the country.
- Contributing to further national technical projects.
Raviot is an FFF employee and a member of the DTN, bringing the same commitment to youth and coach development that he previously brought to the highest international level.
Sixteen years with Les Bleus
Raviot spent 16 years as France’s senior goalkeeping coach, working for two years under Laurent Blanc before serving 14 years alongside Didier Deschamps. During that period, he was involved in 214 matches and eight major finals tournaments.
- Four European Championships.
- Four World Cups.
- Work with leading France goalkeepers including Hugo Lloris and Mike Maignan.
His long tenure made him a central figure in the continuity of France’s goalkeeping department through several generations of players.
A possible meeting with Fabien Barthez
Fabien Barthez has taken over the senior France goalkeeping role after Raviot and is currently completing his coaching qualifications. That could eventually bring the two men together in a training setting, with Raviot among those delivering courses for goalkeeper coaches.
They have not yet crossed paths in that context, but the possibility remains as Barthez continues his studies.
No door closed to elite football
Those close to Raviot say he is fully focused on his current technical responsibilities and approaches them with undiminished enthusiasm. Yet while he remains in post at the DTN, he is not ruling out a future return to top-level football.
