Galliani Registers with Enotria 1908 Ahead of Possible FIGC Presidency Bid

Adriano Galliani has taken the first formal step towards a possible run for the presidency of the Italian Football Federation, registering as an accompanying director with Milan amateur club Enotria 1908.

The decision

The registration is necessary for the former Milan and Monza chief executive to put himself forward for the FIGC presidency. Galliani is expected to stand, although the key question remains which part of Italian football will formally nominate him.

His preferred route would be the backing of Lega Serie A, where a number of clubs have yet to declare their position. At least 10 Serie A sides are still undecided ahead of an informal meeting scheduled for tomorrow.

Those clubs must choose whether to support Giovanni Malagò again or move behind Galliani. Malagò was appointed commissioner after losing his previous position because he was not registered with a club.

If the Serie A league does not unite around his candidacy, Galliani could still receive support from the National Amateur League, led by Giancarlo Abete. Abete was beaten by Malagò in June.

The deadline for submitting candidacies is 4 November. The federation will return to the polls on 14 December, with the presidency once again at the centre of Italian football’s institutional calendar.
