Germany return to home soil still searching for a first victory under Jürgen Klopp, with Serbia arriving for a crucial third Nations League matchday.
The Ligue 1 news
Klopp’s start as Germany coach has been far less convincing than Zinédine Zidane’s opening spell in charge of his own national side. After naming two separate squads comprising 44 players, the Germany manager saw his first selection collect only one point from its opening two fixtures.
Germany began against the Netherlands and held the lead throughout the match, only to concede an equaliser after a decisive Van Bommel pass. The game ended 1-1.
The second outing brought a more damaging result. Greece won 1-0 in Germany after the hosts failed to score and were beaten by a late goal.
Klopp will now use his second squad selection against Serbia. Germany sit third in the group with one point, while their visitors are bottom after two defeats.
| Position | Team | Points |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Greece | 6 |
| 2 | Netherlands | 4 |
| 3 | Germany | 1 |
| 4 | Serbia | 0 |
The next appointment in France
Germany face Serbia on Thursday, with both teams needing a response. Serbia’s campaign has been even more difficult, although they were close to taking something from Greece.
The Serbs led Greece until the 74th minute before losing 2-1, with Kostas Tsimikas scoring the decisive late goal. An away result against Germany would prevent Serbia from falling further behind the three other sides in the group.
