Geyse Ferreira’s Overhead Kick Inspires Brazil Win Over Argentina

In Porto Alegre, with the Beira-Rio carrying the noise of more than 28,000 spectators, Brazil’s women found a memorable moment against Argentina through Geyse Ferreira. The América forward struck an overhead kick in a 3-1 victory during the international window, then turned a night of celebration into a tribute to her family and supporters in Mexico.

The news from the club

Geyse was Brazil’s standout player as Arthur Elias’s side overcame Argentina at the Beira-Rio. Her spectacular bicycle-kick finish was part of a Brazilian win also shaped by goals from Luany and Angelina, while Maricel Pereyra scored Argentina’s consolation.

The forward, who plays for América in Mexico’s Liga MX Femenil, said the goal reflected the work she has been doing with her club and her wish to carry that form into the national side.

“This goal comes from the work I have been doing at club level,” Geyse said. “I try to bring what I am experiencing in Mexico into the national team. I want to dedicate it to my Mexican fans, who had been asking me for a bicycle kick, and also to all Brazilian supporters.”

Her celebration also had a more personal meaning. Geyse dedicated the strike to the memory of her brother, Geovanne, who died in a car accident early in 2025.

Emotional after the match, she spoke of playing at home in Brazil and of the thoughts that came with scoring in front of such a large Porto Alegre crowd. “A million things go through my mind,” she said. “I knew I was at home, playing with the warmth of the fans. I truly wanted my brother to be watching, but he is not here. The rest of my family is watching, though.”

Brazil’s road towards 2027

The match formed part of Brazil’s preparations for the 2027 Women’s World Cup, which the country will host. For Geyse, the evening joined club progress in Mexico with an important international performance: a landmark goal against Argentina, shared with the fans who had asked for it and remembered with her family.
